ARCHIVED LISTING - VARIETY NO LONGER AVAILABLE

(schlimii x kovachii 'Birdman' FCC/AOS)

Primary hybrid of Phrag. kovachii and Phrag. schlimii.

Grown from seed.

Plants Available: The plant pictured is the plant currently available for the 4” Pot option and otherwise represents the size plant associated with this option. Orders will be filled with plants in spike/bud/bloom as blooming season and blooming stock permit.

Orchid Care: Grow in dappled to bright indirect light. Mature plants can be grown nearly as bright as Cattleyas. But, if growing in a warmer climate, err on the side of lower light to offset the effects of high temperatures. Plants should be grown potted in a predominantly bark-based mix that includes charcoal, sponge rock, and a generous helping of calcium chips.* Keep moist. Plants should not dry out between waterings.

* The following recipe for Phrag. kovachii potting mix comes from Phrag. expert Glen Decker via ORCHIDS (Nov. 2007 issue):

  • 6 parts seedling or fine grade bark

  • 1 part horticultural charcoal

  • 1 part sponge rock or perlite

  • 1/2 part calcium chips or cracked oyster shells
