Formerly Brassavola glauca.

Rl. glauca is one of just two species in the genus Rhyncholaelia, whose natural distribution includes Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Belize. Both species have distinctive foliage—thick and stiffly upright with the appearance of having been dusted in silver or grey.

The stature of the Rl. glauca is relatively short and plants remain compact as they mature. The blooms are creamy light green with waxy and substantive texture. Fragrant at night—a light and citrusy scent.

Plants Available: Growing in 4” pots. Plants are established divisions from our breeding stock. An example of the size available is pictured.

Orchid Care: Grow in very high light. Some direct sun is okay, but not advisable during the hottest or most intensive parts of the day. Plants grown in higher light develop a reddish purple tinge on the foliage. Rl. glauca can be grown potted or mounted. The growth habit of the plant (as illustrated in the 4” pot pictured) is often considered more conducive to mounting as plants mature. Mounting and potting should be done in spring when new roots emerge. Plants disturbed when not actively growing (e.g., by dividing or repotting) may decline or fail to thrive. In watering, the root system of the plant should be allowed to dry thoroughly between applications of water. Follow the weakly, weekly rule of thumb in fertilizing, with the option to fertilize every other week during the cooler months with shorter days.
